⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Gon Freecss
Age: 14
Canon: Hunter x Hunter (2011)
Canon Point: Post-series

Background: Wiki Link

Personality:Gon is, in short, a shounen protagonist in an uncaring world. He’s very energetic and stubborn, goal-oriented, clever, and strong. But he doesn’t always get his way, even if he specifically wants things his way and under the best circumstances. He claims that he’s just selfish like that and accepts it of himself. In multiple instances, Gon has had on screen arguments with people about trying to get his way, even with his opponents. When he’s doing life-or-death dodgeball he could have won in a way that didn’t injure his best friend, but he felt absolute victory instead of technical victory required it. When it turned out that his father’s student survived something, he was still very upset because he wanted him to be rescued through his diret efforts, and wanted things to go as he planned. The earliest example is that he was in a fight with someone and he needed to win to progress, but he refused to have the person stronger than him simply forfeit. He wanted to win properly.

This is a peculiar trait since he had never asked for anything before realizing he wanted to be a Hunter, aka an elite fighter/finder/problem solver. The world’s governments seem to rely on them for everything important, and they are often hired as bodyguards for the wealthy, from princes to mafia members.

Gon is a mixture of unflinching towards death and violence, but intensely empathetic towards those he has met and views as a friend. He definitely enjoys fighting, action, and having to problem solve. He is exhilarated by the adrenaline that accompanies it where most normal people would flee for their lives.

When faced with seemingly impossible circumstances, he never shies away. In fact, the impossibility seems to egg him on. When told he will have to face someone who will absolutely kill him, he just becomes excited for the hunt, and immediately creates a plan to deal with it. For instance: a famous murderer got paired up with him multiple times for licensing and combat, and Gon never gave up, even if he had the option to avoid death.

Although he is described as simple-minded and straightforward, he is still extremely clever. He just happens to be forthright. He is a great learner and incorporates new things he learns into his strategies all the time. For instance, after learning about different counterfeiting methods, Gon was able to use something riffing on that to break a puzzle that would have prevented his group from finishing a task. Part of that is born from his need to have things go his way. If some

His best friend is an assassin who has killed people in front of him, and Gon has not reacted in a strongly negative way. He accepts him, but only because he’s a friend. He has reacted unsympathetically towards killers in the past.

Gon has a very grey morality born of his background and being totally surrounded by similar people. The guys who come in to save the day in his world are usually only doing it for the pay or fame, and tend to be assholes. Only weirdos tend to be Hunters generally since it requires a high tolerance for pain, violence, and fear.

Gon’s own dad is running from him, partially so he doesn’t have to be a dad, and partially to make Gon a worthy hunter. This has had some serious consequences for Gon’s personality.

Abilities: I’m playing Gon from a point where he’s lost his magic aura powers, but even after he loses them, he’s still incredibly strong, fast, and has excellent reflexes. His shounen-style universe generally supports people having the ability to be faster than a camera can record and so strong that a little boy can send an enormous sumo-wrestler type flying with just a push unassisted by magic. This is still seen as extremely exceptional and abnormal, however.

Alignment:Daimona: Gon is a very energetic and joyful boy, most of the time. He loves playing and takes joy in challenges. However, when he is hit hard by something difficult, he also expresses his grief very prominently. He freely expresses himself this way.
